Hurrah! Spin Guild in Decline Thanks to Meaningful Competition

To the left, a snapshot of the blog's author preparing the present post, where I quote Lew Rockwell from his excellent submission - click on the post's headline for the original:

"The circulation of newspapers, those reliable transmission belts of state propaganda, continues to go down and down and down."

For a tiny piece of illustration, read this comment placed with MSNBC online, the first of the premier TV stations to mention the fabulous success of the 5th November Money Bomb, a one day fund-raising event in support of presidential candidate Ron Paul:

"Gee whiz, I don't see any mention of it on the major media outlets although on the front page of Fox "news", there's a very important "story"

"Stephen Colbert ends White House bid after being removed from South Carolina primary ballot."

What a joke "Free" media has become. It's Free because nobody in their right mind would pay for this trash."

One more example: Germany's top dailies offer with slightly varying wording this headline today: "X in love with Y", X being a TV anchor woman and Y the head of the countries largest telecommunication company.

Two or three decades ago, there was a discernible difference between the staid and reputable press outlets and the yellow press. Nowadays, it is sensationalism all over the place. It is as if the childish have taken over the country, everywhere you look.

And here is an important instance of what I mean by meaningful competition:

"What [Ron Paul]'s done -- what his supporters have done -- is astonishing," Ed Rollins, who managed Ross Perot's campaign in 1992 and served as an adviser to President Reagan, told The Trail. "You can't dismiss his anti-war vote. You can't dismiss the power of one man standing up with a powerful message. I'll tell you, I've been in politics for 40 years, and these days everything I've learned about politics is totally irrelevant because there's this uncontrollable thing like the Internet. Washington insiders don't know what to make of it." (http://www.lewrockwell.com/blog/lewrw/archives/016677.html)
